Why the fragrance of our candles do not have phthalates?

Posted by Jessika Tessier on

They are known to be endocrine disruptors, causing cancer, headaches or migraine, infertility problems and potentially dangerous for the development of the fetus. ❌ This is why we do not use these fragrances that contain it.

Phthalates are a group of chemicals used in plastics to soften them and increase their flexibility. They are also used as solvents in household products, in particular in:

  • self-care products, including: cosmetics
  • natural health products
  • non-prescription drugs
  • construction and renovation products, including: paints and coatings
  • lubricants and greases
  • building materials
  • adhesives and sealants
  • fabrics and textiles
  • electrical and electronic products
  • children's toys and child care products
  • Phthalates can also be used in:
  • printing inks
  • automotive products
  • pest control products
  • certain food packaging materials

You may be exposed to phthalates from the use of these products. You can also be exposed to phthalates through indoor air, dust, water and food.

Phthalic acid derivatives are often used to denature the alcohol of perfumes and improve their staying power.

Phthalates block the effect of testosterone, mimic estrogen and alter the production of thyroid hormones.

Good news ! All Joséphine Co products contain NO trace of phthalates!

We use phthalate-free, vegan and cruelty-free fragrances.
